Electronic Texts
- Some of these are accessible from within the University of Michigan
computing environment only.
- The Encyclopedia of Science and Technology All Boolean-searchable facts a humanist and social scientist
would ever want to know in this field.
- The American Memory Project at the Library of Congress
- The Crossroads Project from the American Studies Program at the
University of Michigan
- The MUSE Project from Johns Hopkins University Press A nice site with a number of electronic scholarly journals, including
Configurations (cultural studies of science and tech) and MODERNISM/Modernity, dedicated to the history of modernism.
- The Humanities Text Initiative A massive and admirable effort to offer fully-formatted, attributed,
and indexed bodies of texts on the Web, from a soon-to-appear
Middle English dictionary to a vast collection of English poetry.
Lots of nice links, too.
- The Encyclopedia Americana As you would imagine, with lots of glitz.
- The Oxford English Dictionary The genuine item, all 20+ volumes of it.
- "Past Masters" Anglophone theory heads (Hume, Locke, Smith, etc.) through the
nineteenth century (Sorry, no Hegel spinoffs).
- The Gutenberg Project This is a low-level, ftp-only-acessible archive of "classic"
texts, without version control or attribution, in ASCII (unformatted).
